The Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection loaned four artworks to the exhibition Tjukurrtjanu: Origins of Western Desert Art. This exhibition was featured at two museums: The National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia, and Musée du quai Branly in Paris, France. Tjukurrtjanu examined a watershed moment in the history of art when a vibrant painting practice emerged at Papunya in Central Australia. Tjukurrtjanu gave prominence to two hundred of the first paintings produced at Papunya between 1971 and 1972, and established the vital connection between the works of art and their sources in ephemeral designs made for use in ceremony.
