Printmaking Activity for Children with Josef Beery
Start the presses! Join us Saturday, June 15, between 11 am and 1 pm for a printmaking activity with Josef Beery geared toward children ages 6-13. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Josef will have with him printing presses of his own invention—the BookBeetle Desktop Letterpress. With Josef’s presses (and a little ink), we will create environments of our local flora and fauna or of creatures from wherever you call home. The ecosystems we craft will display connections between ourselves, nature, and how we may better sustain the natural world around us. Be ready to get a little messy!
Josef Beery is a printmaker and educator specializing in the history of the book and printing. He is cofounder of the Virginia Arts of the Book Center now a public-access book arts program of UVA’s Virginia Humanities. Josef will share his remarkable desktop press the BookBeetle for hands-on printmaking. You can see a video of its operation HERE.
We hope to see you and your printed worlds on June 15!
